“Killer Poet” Up for Parole

Norman A. Porter published poetry under the pseudonym J.J. Jameson while on the run

A self-proclaimed poet, who was convicted of second-degree murder in the separate killings of two men in the 1960s, is up for parole.

Norman A. Porter Jr. published poems while on the run under the pseudonym J.J. Jameson. He later earned the nickname "Killer Poet."

He eluded authorities for nearly 20 years after his escape from a prison in Norfolk, Massachusetts, in 1985.

He was caught on March 22, 2005. On Oct. 14, 2005, Porter was sentenced to three years in prison for his escape.

Porter was convicted in the murders of David Robinson Sr. and John J. Piggot.

One of his life sentences was commuted by Governor Michael Dukakis in 1975. Porter was denied parole by the Massachusetts Parole Board on Jan. 12, 2010.
