An employee of Lahey Hospital has been fired and is facing charges after allegedly hiding a camera in a restroom.

Multiple people were videotaped in a state of undress while using the restroom, according to investigators.

Patients and employees were shocked to hear of the incident while leaving the facility on Thursday.

"I guess we don’t really think about that when we go into a bathroom. I think whether it’s a public bathroom or not that we have a sense of privacy so that invades that sense of privacy," said a female patient.

"I just got an email on it and I was like, 'whoa, that’s really weird,'" added one worker who did not want to be identified.

Mcdermott was an employee at the hospital before being fired, according to Lahey Hospital officials.

The hospital's security team found no other devices on the hospital's campus.

"It has been determined this device was placed in the restroom for only a brief period of time before it was discovered. No patients or visitors were impacted by this incident," read a partial statement from hospital officials.

McDermott will be arraigned at a later date. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
