73-Year-Old Woman Dies After Being Pulled From Lake Champlain; Man Reported Missing

A 73-year-old Vermont woman has died after being pulled from Lake Champlain, and a 73-year-old man is missing.

Celine Teeson of Colchester, Vermont, was pulled from the water around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, about 45 minutes after two overturned kayaks were spotted in Malletts Bay, according to police. She was taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead around 5:40 p.m.

At the time the kayaks overturned, a severe thunderstorm was causing heavy wind and rain in the area.

Crews searched through the afternoon and evening for a second missing person, believed to be a 73-year-old man from Chittenden County.

The search for the man has been suspended and will resume Wednesday morning.
