Lakeville Police Officer Allegedly Struck by Fleeing Vehicle

Lakeville police charged a New Bedford resident with striking a police officer with his vehicle while trying to flee a scene Friday night.

While the police officer was not seriously injured, an assisting department finally stopped the vehicle by deploying a tire deflation device.

Kasey S. Faria, 25, of 213 Tremont St., faces charges of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, driving with a revoked license, failure to stop for a police officer, and a handful of other traffic violations, according to a Lakeville Police statement.

Police said the incident occurred at 7:27 p.m. when Lakeville police tried to stop Faria's vehicle, which was operating erratically.

"The operator was ordered to stop and place the vehicle in park," police said. "The operator denied the order to do so, fleeing the scene and striking the officer with his vehicle."

Police pursued the car, which exited the Ted Williams Camp. As the driver fled south on Route 18, he crossed into Freetown police, who assisted Lakeville authorities by using a tire deflation device to stop the car. Faria was arrested, police said.

Faria is scheduled to be arraigned in Wareham District Court. Police said the injured patrolman, who was not identified in the news release, was treated at a local hospital and released.
