Woman Fatally Shot in Parked Car in Lawrence Identified

Police in Lawrence are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Hillside Avenue on Sunday night.

According to officials, police responded to a motor vehicle crash around 5 p.m. and found a woman "suffering from apparent gunshot wounds."

Police confirmed the victim was shot while driving and the shooting resulted in a crash with another vehicle.

The woman, since identified as 25-year-old Mindy T. Tran, was taken to Lawrence General Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Officials are considering this "an active and fluid investigation." There are no suspects in custody at this time.

Lawrence Mayor Dan Rivera said the shooting appears to be drug-related, involving people who don't live in the Tower Hill neighborhood.

"People come into these neighborhoods, quiet neighborhoods in the city of Lawrence to do a drug transaction. God knows what's going on through their heads and then something violent transpires," he said. "I think if we can get less and less people needing to buy drugs and less and less people selling drugs and less availability of illegal weapons, I think we'd be better off and things like this wouldn't be happening here."

The Essex District Attorney's Office, Massachusetts State Police and Lawrence Police are investigating the fatal shooting.
