2 Firefighters Injured Fighting Blaze at Lawrence Home

One firefighter had chest pain and a second suffered minor burns in the blaze at 2 May Street

Firefighters from multiple nearby towns responded Sunday morning to a fire at a home in Lawrence, Massachusetts.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the blaze that started sometime after 7:30 a.m. at 2 May Street. One firefighter had chest pain and another suffered minor burns.

The fire was concentrated on the second and third floors of the home, and it appears several people were living in the third-floor attic space of the home, which is illegal, according to Lawrence Fire Chief Moriarty.

The blaze has been contained, but Chief Moriarty says it was a difficult fire to fight because it had gotten into the walls, making it hard for them to knock it down.

Moriarty says it preliminarily appears to be some sort of accidental electrical fire, but officials are working to confirm that.

The fire does not appear to be suspicious at this time.

No one else was injured, and the Red Cross is on scene assisting the family.

The fire remains under investigation.
