Lawyer Seeks Probation for Vermont Sex Convict

The lawyer for a Vermont man convicted of sexually assaulting a younger student at an elite New Hampshire prep school says his client has already been punished and should receive probation.

Twenty-year-old Owen Labrie faces up to 11 years in prison when he is sentenced Thursday. Because he was convicted of using a computer to lure a 15-year-old freshman into a sexual encounter just days before he graduated from St. Paul's School, he also will be required to register as a sex offender for life.

Prosecutors have yet to file their sentencing recommendation.

Labrie also was convicted in August of three counts of misdemeanor sexual assault because the girl was younger than 16.

His lawyer says Labrie's punishment since his arrest last year and high-profile trial "has been enormous."
