Maine Police Officer Saves Skunk But Gets Sprayed in the Process

A Lewiston Maine police officer helped a skunk but was sprayed in the process

A Lewiston, Maine, police officer saved a skunk early Friday morning but was sprayed in the process.

Sargent Wayne Clifford received the call Friday morning from a concerned citizen who reported that a skunk had gotten its head trapped inside a glass container.

His partner Sargent Derek St. Laurent stayed inside the cruiser and provided Sgt. Clifford with a spotlight and some commentary.

Sgt. Clifford was able to free the skunk from the container but could not escape without getting sprayed first.

Sgt. Clifford went back to the station after his shift and had to explain to the rest of the officers why the station had such a foul smell.
