Pedestrian Dies After Being Struck by Tractor Trailer on Interstate 95 in Lexington

Investigators say they do not know why the man was in the roadway at the time

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a tractor trailer early Friday morning in Lexington, Massachusetts.

The crash happened around 3:45 a.m. in a middle lane on Interstate 95 north in the area of the service center near Exit 30A (Route 2A).

State Police said the victim, whose name has not been released, was transported from the scene with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead at a hospital.

Investigators say they do not know why the man was in the roadway at the time.

The right two lanes of the highway were closed following the crash, causing delays. Left lanes remained open for travel, as did Exits 30A/B. All lanes have since reopened.

The tractor trailer driver did stop following the collision. Police say he is a 40-year-old man from Northampton, Pennsylvania.

No charges have been filed but the crash remains under investigation.
