Snow Heading Out to Sea, Will Reveal Sunshine for Most

Winter weather advisories are expiring early Thursday morning. A bit of less cold air is coming in for the next couple of days.

A general 2-to-5 inches of snow fell overnight, some higher amounts at a few of the ski resorts. And for a change, there was no mix with sleet or freezing rain.

Also for a change, central and northern Maine did not get the snow. It was western and southern New England, including much of New Hampshire and parts of southern Maine that got the nice dry snow.

It’s pretty and fairly easy to deal with, thanks to the low density and lack of wind.

The weak low-pressure system is moving out to sea Thursday with increasing sunshine for western and northern New England. However, snow showers and flurries may continue, especially in eastern Massachusetts and Cape Cod in the Islands. High temperatures Thursday in the 20s to low 30s from north to south with light variable wind.

Another weak low-pressure system should mostly miss to our south Friday. That should leave us with fair skies Thursday night and a good amount of sunshine, especially north Friday.

Low temperatures overnight once again in the single numbers and teens. High temperatures Friday near 30 degrees north, and closer to 40 degrees south.

The weather pattern remains incredibly active with one storm system after another crossing the nation. The trick to getting the forecast right is trying to time and place each individual low pressure system along the east coast.

On Saturday, we’re going to a strengthening storm moving into Ontario, and also a storm developing over the ocean south of New England. The two bay bridge the gap between, resulting in sunshine giving way to the possibility of snow, or rain near the coast, by late in the day.

Temperatures similar, near 30 degrees north, and 40 degrees south.

We may get a period of snow, or a wintry mix changing to snow, Saturday night into early Sunday.

A few inches seem likely for the ski areas, and maybe a coating right to the coast.

We should have slow clearing Sunday, with colder air in the 30s, falling to the 20s late.

Yet another low pressure system moves off the coast south of New England Sunday night and Monday. That means another chance for snow, or a wintry mix near the coast.

Timing looks to be Sunday night and Monday. This one could be a little bit more significant perhaps resulting in some cancellations and delays due to snow cover Monday morning.

Temperatures are going to be pretty cold next week, likely in the 20s to low 30s, with the threat of additional snow every other day or so. Stay ahead of it with our First Alert 10-Day Forecast.
