Lobstermen Set Record for Value With Massive 2015 Haul

The state's Department of Marine Resources says the catch was worth $495.4 million at the dock last year

Fishing regulators say lobstermen in Maine set a record for the total value of the lobsters they caught with a haul worth nearly $500 million last year.

The state's Department of Marine Resources says the catch was worth $495.4 million at the dock last year. That's $35 million more than the catch the year before, which was a record at the time.

The state says fishermen also topped 120 million pounds of lobster for the fourth year in a row. The 120 million-pound catch was down about 3.6 million pounds from the previous year but still was far above the hauls of the 1990s and 2000s.

Maine lobster topped $4 per pound at the dock for the first time since 2007. Regulators cite growing demand for Maine lobster.
