A Massachusetts man is facing a murder charge after he allegedly beat his wife to death with a baseball bat inside their apartment in Lynn early Monday morning.
55-year-old Miguel A. Castillo was arraigned Monday in Lynn District Court, appearing physically distraught and almost collapsing at one point.
Police said they responded to an apartment on Chase Street around 4:45 a.m. for a requested well-being check on 47-year-old Luz Yanina Acevado, and found her dead of apparent blunt force trauma.
"Go ahead. Take me. I killed my wife," Castillo reportedly confessed when police arrived on the scene. Police say he called his sister in New Jersey this morning, admitting to the murder and saying he wanted to turn himself in.
Family friends said they had received calls overnight from Acevado's family in the Dominican Republic asking them to stop by her apartment to check on her because she had stopped responding to their calls.
"She called her mom and she was worried because she was having issues with her husband," said one friend who asked not to be identified. "It's just a tragedy."
That same friend said the couple had lived in the Lynn apartment for several years and only gotten married a few years ago. He said they did not have any children together, but Acevado had three children from a previous relationship who live in the Dominican Republic.
Castillo is also originally from the Dominican Republic and works for Americraft in Lowell as a box maker.
Attorney John Apruzzese is representing Castillo.
The Daily Item of Lynn reports that there was a homicide at the same apartment building last April.
