Smoldering Equipment Source of MBTA Green Line Disruption

Smoldering equipment at an MBTA Green Line station resulted in the station to temporarily close Thursday afternoon.

Shuttle buses were servicing commuters between between Lechmere and North Station was due to Boston Fire Department activity, but did not immediately elaborate.

Boston fire officials say a smoldering switch gear was found around 3 p.m. at the Haymarket Station, and that firefighters had to turn the power off in order to get it to stop smoldering.

Firefighters were able to get the scene under control within 10 minutes.

It's unclear when the MBTA will open the station again.

No one was injured.
