The MBTA confirmed on Friday that it has launched an investigation after a video posted on social media showed a bus driver blowing through a red light.

The incident, which happened at about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, shows the bus drive through the light at the corner of Washington Street and Ukraine Way in Jamaica Plain.

"It was quite shocking to see that," said Kyle Vining, who recorded the video with a GoPro camera that’s mounted on his bicycle. "I'm thankful that I wasn't in the path of the bus, and I’m thankful that it wasn't in my lane."

"MBTA managers have identified the bus operator in the video and this matter is being thoroughly investigated," the transit authority said in a statement. "All MBTA bus operators are trained to be fully prepared with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely operate a bus at all times."

The MBTA did not release the driver's name.
