Shots Fired at Ruggles MBTA Orange Line Station, Police Say

It wasn't immediately clear what criminal activity had prompted the police response

A shooting was reported at Ruggles station on the MBTA Orange Line Thursday afternoon, according to Northeastern University police.

No one was shot in the incident, according to the MBTA. Initial reports that a person was shot were incorrect.

The people believed to have been involved in the shooting fled the station immediately afterward, running away from the university's campus, but there is no immediate threat to the community, police said in a statement.

The shooting took place about 3:15 p.m., according to Northeastern University police, who cited information from Boston police. MBTA Transit Police are investigating, and Northeastern police will step up patrols in the area.

The Boston Police Department has yet to give information on the incident.

Police activity at several MBTA Orange Line stations had caused delays Thursday afternoon, though the MBTA didn't give details. Trains were again running normally with residual delays by about 4 p.m.

The MBTA tweeted that trains were delayed 15 minutes while Transit Police provided assistance at State and Downtown Crossing. The agency later updated that delays had reached upwards of 20 minutes.
