MBTA officials have announced that normal operating hours at the Alewife Garage will begin on Saturday morning following concrete repairs.

The last of the nightly closures at the Cambridge garage is scheduled for 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Saturday with no further closures expected.

The garage had been closed for two consecutive weekends overnight so that crews could make repairs after loose concrete damaged a vehicle on Aug. 8.

During that time, MBTA officials and an independent engineering consultant determined that the garage was safe for use.

The transit agency announced in July that a $5.7 million contract was awarded to begin long-term repair work in September on the garage that will include repairing beams, patching concrete decks, re-caulking deck joints, and cleaning and flushing the existing drainage system.
