Massachusetts General Hospital is Country's Second Best Hospital: Report

A ranking created by U.S. News and World Report recognized MGH as the second best hospital in the U.S.

Boston’s own Massachusetts General Hospital was named the second best hospital in the U.S. for 2019-2020, according to a ranking by U.S. News and World Report.

MGH was second in the magazine’s Honor Roll out of nearly 5,000 medical centers considered nationally. Only 20 facilities are named on the elite list for exceptional care, and the Boston medical center was beaten out for the top spot by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

The Boston-based hospital was ranked No. 1 for research and treatment of psychological conditions. It was also recognized as second best in its diabetes and endocrinology department as well as its otolaryngology department.

Mass. General wasn’t the only Boston-area medical facility to be named in the esteemed list; Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital was named the third best hospital in the U.S. for those recovering from traumatic injuries, stroke or heart attack.

The magazine ranked hospitals in 16 adult specialties by reviewing surveys from more than 30,000 physicians.
