Mail Carrier Helps Revive Man Who Collapsed on Road

George Clifford tells Vermont Public Radio he was on his 60-mile rural route in Pittsford last Saturday when he saw something lying motionless in the road

Residents in a Vermont town are calling a longtime mail carrier a hero after he helped revive a 72-year-old man who had collapsed on the road.

Fifty-one-year-old George Clifford tells Vermont Public Radio he was on his 60-mile rural route in Pittsford last Saturday when he saw something lying motionless in the road.

He says he called 911 after realizing it was a person. Clifford performed CPR on the man while he was on the phone with a dispatcher. A bystander ran up to help.

Clifford says Michael Hefner then gasped for air. Emergency responders soon arrived and took the West Rutland man to the hospital.

Clifford says he and Hefner's family connected last Tuesday after they learned of his involvement. His son credits Clifford for saving his life.
