Maine Couple Killed in Collision With Dump Truck

Police say Joyce Gipson, 85, somehow turned into the path of the truck in Madison

Police say a couple was killed Thursday morning when their car collided with a dump truck collided in Madison, Maine.

The Somerset County Sheriff's Department says 85-year-old Joyce Gipson and her husband, 80-year-old Keith Blackwell, were killed when Joyce appeared to turned into the path of the truck at the intersection of Preble Avenue and Ward Hill Road. The couple was struck on the driver's side of the car and crushed stone from the truck spilled onto the vehicle.

The dump truck driver, 50-year-old David Obert, of Norridgewock, suffered minor injuries and was being treated at an area hospital.

Police say it appears that Joyce Gipson turned into the path of the truck. Maine State Police were working to reconstruct the crash.

Authorities said it did not appear that alcohol was a factor in the crash.
