Maine Home Care Referendum Petition Delivered

Organizers of a referendum to guarantee access to home care for the disabled and seniors in Maine say they have collected enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot.

The "Homecare for All" referendum was submitted to the secretary of state's office on Friday.

The referendum is backed by a coalition of seniors, caregivers and public interest groups. They say it will raise wages for home care workers and help keep seniors in their homes.

Critics say the referendum will be costly for taxpayers.

The secretary of state's office has until Feb. 26 to certify the signatures.
