Around midnight Wednesday, a motorcycle crashed at the intersection of Windham Center Road and Ward Road before authorities could pull over the driver.
Kevin Coopersmith, 24, of Gorham was pronounced dead at the scene.
Windham Police say they saw the motorcycle speeding and tried catch up to it. Authorities say speed was a contributing factor in the crash as they continue to investigate.
This is Maine's 28th fatal motorcycle crash this year, compared to its 11 deaths in 2014.
According to Maine officials, this is the worst year for motorcycle accident deaths since 1991 when 34 people reportedly died in the state.
