Student in Maine arrested after making online threats to South Portland High School

A 15-year-old South Portland High School student in Maine is under house arrest after he allegedly made threats of "shooting up the school" on social media.

Police said the student, whose name was not released because of his age, made the threats via Snapchat Wednesday night, but the threats were later retracted.

Officers were able to find the student before he had arrived at the high school and took him into custody.

Police said that the suspect was found carrying a knife, but did not have any firearms.

He's being charged with terrorizing and carrying a concealed weapon. The student was placed on house arrest and police say that he has not been involved in any prior incidents. It's unclear if he has an attorney.

Police were sent to the school this morning for added security, but the school was never shut down at any time.

The incident remains under investigation and police plan to search the student's home.

The social media threats were made on the same day as the nation was shaken by yet another deadly high school shooting, this time in Parkland, Florida. A 19-year-old former student is accused of killing 17 and injuring more than a dozen others.
