Maine Woman Facing Charges in Fatal Hit-in-Run

Police in Westbrook, Maine, say they have tracked down the driver in a fatal hit-and-run.

Natasha Field, 32, of Standish, Maine was charged with aggravated leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and violation of a condition of release.

The victim has been identified as 51-year-old Sharon Crawford, of Westbrook. Neighbors say she was crossing the street near her Stroudwater Street apartment Tuesday around 7 p.m., when an SUV struck her, briefly stopped, then sped away.

"[The car] rammed her, left her in the middle of the road to die," said neighbor Charlie Lambert. "It’s not fair to the people who knew her."

Crawford’s cousin, Angela Dowdy, said her son was walking with Sharon the market, when the SUV hit her on William Clark Drive.

"My son heard [the crash] and looked, and she was laying on the ground," Dowdy said. “She was a very kind, honest person,” said Dowdy.

Police say they are still investigating the circumstances of the crash. They took a blood sample from Field and are awaiting the results.

"We are investigating all angles for the reason of the crash," said Westbrook Police Captain Sean Lally.

Field is being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail. Her court date is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m.
