Maine Woman Killed in Crash, Dog Missing

The crash happened on Interstate 95 in Island Falls as the area was being hit with freezing rain

Maine State Police say a Houlton woman is dead and her dog is missing after a crash on Interstate 95 in Island Falls.

The crash happened Tuesday evening as the area was being hit with freezing rain. Authorities say 69-year-old George Drake was driving too fast for the road conditions when he lost control of his SUV, which spun off the road, overturned into a ditch and struck several trees. His wife, 71-year-old Janet Drake, was killed. She was not wearing a seatbelt.

The couple's two dogs fled from the crash site. One was recovered, but the other ran off. Authorities say Ruby, a pure bred Hungarian Vizsla, is about 60 pounds with short brown hair and a white patch on her chest.

The dog has a chip in its collar, so it can be scanned to show the dog's owner. Anyone who sees Ruby can call Maine State Police at 603-532-5400.
