A 32-year-old Saugus, Massachusetts resident was charged with the fatal collision that killed a 23-year-old man on July 8 in Malden, Massachusetts.

Renan DaSilva, the OUI driver behind the collision, remains in the hospital but is expected to be arraigned Tuesday. The location of the arraignment is yet to be announced, pending the condition of DaSilva.

The collision occurred at 11:47 p.m. on Lynn Street, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office. A preliminary investigation shows a 2009 Infinity FX35 was traveling north at a high rate of speed when it crossed a double line, striking a 2008 Nissan Altima that was driving south.

DaSilva stayed at the scene and suffered non-life threatening injuries. The Altima’s passenger, Somerville resident Jakeuderm Bernadin, died at the scene.

The 27-year-old driver of the Altima suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

DaSilva was charged with motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence causing serious bodily injury, operating under the influence, negligent operation, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, uninsured operation of a vehicle, operating with a revoked registration.

State police, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Malden police are continuing their investigation on the collision.
