Man Accused of Abducting Young Son in 1987 Faces Arraignment

A Canadian man accused of abducting his toddler son in 1987 and disappearing for 31 years before being arrested in Connecticut last month is facing a court arraignment.

Allan Mann Jr. is set to appear in federal court in New Haven on Monday. He is charged in the U.S. with making false statements about his identity in obtaining federally funded housing and Medicaid services. He also faces an abduction charge in Canada.

Authorities say Mann kidnapped his 21-month-old son, Jermaine, during a court ordered visit in Toronto on June 24, 1987. Investigators say they received a tip and on Oct. 26 found Mann in Vernon, Connecticut, living under the name Hailee DeSouza.

Mann's son, now 33, has been reunited with his mother.

Mann's lawyer has not returned messages seeking comment.
