Man Accused of Fatally Stabbing 81-Year-Old to Face Judge

State police say Timothy Butler, of Sunderland, was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon

A 31-year-old southern Vermont man is in custody and due to appear in court to answer first-degree murder charges in the stabbing death of an 81-year-old Arlington woman in her home earlier this year.

State police say Timothy Butler, of Sunderland, was arrested without incident Wednesday afternoon at a park in Arlington.

Butler is due to appear in court Thursday where he will answer charges of murder and burglary.

The body of Helen Jones was found in her home in Jan. 4.

Local Arlington residents had linked Jones' killing to a series of local burglaries. While police confirmed the burglaries, they declined to link those burglaries to the killing of Jones.

Police now say they found evidence of a forced entry into Jones' home.
