The suspect arrested in connection with the fatal hit-and-run of a bicyclist in Boston's Back Bay last month was ordered held on $25,000 bail at his arraignment Wednesday.
Malone Kidanemariam, 25, of Boston, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death eight days after the crash.
The suspect, who turned himself in to Boston police Tuesday night, may face additional charges as the investigation continues, according to the Suffolk district attorney's office. He was represented by attorney Patrick Troy.
Kidanemariam is accused of hitting 30-year-old Rick Archer just after 3 a.m. on April 30 at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Clarendon Street. Archer, a bike courier who lived in South Boston, was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in critical condition, where he passed away days later.
Investigators found the car that was allegedly involved in the hit-and-run, which was described as a silver sedan, inside a Boston garage after getting a tip from an alert security guard, Boston Police Commissioner William Evans said on May 2.
A second bicyclist was traveling with Archer at the time, but was not injured in the hit-and-run.
Outside of the courtroom Wednesday morning, Kidanemariam's uncle said his family is still in shock about the charges.

"Everybody knows him, he's very nice," he said.
Kidanemariam is due back in court on June 1.
In the meantime, Archer's friends are demanding change by Boston Councilors.
"I want these councilors to realize that it could be them that receives a phone call at 4 o'clock in the morning - that they need to go to the hospital to say goodby," said friend Shah Paul.
