Man Accused of Killing Stepdaughter Faces New Charge

Dennis Duby was charged last year with second-degree murder in the death of 2-year-old Dezirae Sheldon

A Vermont man accused in the death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter is facing a new charge after he allegedly had contact with his ex-wife while he was living at a court-ordered residence.

Dennis Duby, 32, of Pittsford, was charged last year with second-degree murder in the death of Dezirae Sheldon. An autopsy showed the girl died of blunt trauma injuries to the head.

Duby was released on bail in April of 2014, but was ordered back to jail for violating court-ordered curfew.

On March 30, 2015, Duby was found to have violated his conditions of release again while living at a court ordered residence on Whipple Hollow Road in Florence. Duby reportedly made contact with his ex-wife, Sandra Eastman-Duby, who was living with his mother and brother at their home in Castleton.

Dennis Duby allegedly spoke to his ex-wife by phone while she was at the address. The investigation also revealed that Eastman-Duby is 5-1/2 months pregnant, and that Dennis Duby is the suspected father.

Dennis Duby is scheduled to appear in Rutland Criminal Court on May 11 to answer to the new condition of release violation.
