Man Accused of Leaving Dogs Overnight in Freezing Temperatures

A Rhode Island man who police say left several dogs outside in freezing temperatures overnight faces nearly two dozen animal abuse charges.

Rhode Island State police arrested 35-year-old Eugene McQuade, of East Greenwich, Saturday following reports by Exeter Animal Control.

Police say three dogs were found in Exeter and eight dogs were discovered in Coventry. Authorities say another dog was found in a truck. Temperatures were in the 20s at night over the weekend.

The dogs have been examined and are being treated at two area shelters.

McQuade will face 11 charges of unnecessary cruelty to animals, 11 of mistreatment of animals and an abandonment charge when he is arraigned in South Kingstown District Court on Jan. 31.
