A Massachusetts man has been accused of sexually assaulting residents at a New Bedford nursing home.

A spokeswoman for the Bristol County District Attorney's office told WJAR-TV on Wednesday that Jacob King, 57, of Fall River, has been charged with three counts of rape in relation to incidents at the Savoy Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

The spokeswoman said that the alleged incidents occurred in September and November and involved two victims.

Police say the incidents happened when King worked as a nurse at the facility.

Court records show a complaint was filed with the state Board of Nursing.

Lori Hathaway, a patient at the center for more than a year, told WJAR-TV that she had a lot of interaction with King and that the allegations were unexpected.

"He could be mean in the sense of yelling at people for no reason," said Hathaway. "He never approached me and I never heard of him approaching anybody else on there."

King's neighbor, Esmeralda Demelo, said he mostly kept to himself.

"I heard stories, rumors, and stuff. And I just didn't think much of it because he seemed nice," said Demelo.

The district attorney's office told South Coast Today that prosecutors sought to detain King as a danger to the public at a hearing on Nov. 21.
