Man Arrested in Massachusetts in Fatal Shooting in Vermont

Police have arrested a man in Massachusetts in the shooting death of a man in Burlington, Vermont, over the weekend.

Police said 24-year-old Chavis Murphy was arrested Tuesday night in West Springfield, Massachusetts, outside of a restaurant near a hotel he had checked into since the shooting Sunday.

It happened as bars were closing along Church Street in Burlington, a popular shopping and entertainment district. Police said the victim, Obafemi Adedapo, had been arguing with at least one man at the Zen Lounge before he left and was shot.

The 28-year-old Adedapo was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds at Vermont Medical Center.

Burlington police said they are in Massachusetts applying for search warrants and collecting evidence regarding Murphy, a Vermont native. It wasn't immediately known if he had a lawyer.
