A Seymour man is accused of breaking into his ex-girlfriend’s Shelton home on Wednesday, dragged her down the stairs and out to the back yard, then hitting her in the head and slamming her head on the ground.
Police responded to a Howe Avenue home at 11:20 a.m. after receiving a 911 call about a dispute in the backyard and found a 23-year-old woman on the ground. She was seriously injured and told police that she was at home with a male friend when her ex-boyfriend showed up.
She told police that Jesse Smith, 29, was wearing a bandana on his face when he broke into her house and dragged her down the stairs and out to the back yard.
Once they were outside, Smith hit her in the head several times and slammed her head on the ground, then fled, according to police.
The victim was transported to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for serious, but not life- threatening injuries.
Police searched for Smith and found him hiding in the Housatonic River, police said.
He has Smith was arrested and charged with home invasion, second-degree assault and disorderly conduct and held on a $50,000.
He will be arraigned in Derby Superior Court today.
