Man Busted with 41 Lbs of Pot in His Trunk

The driver told police he was a medical marijuana caregiver

Police in Maine discovered a massive amount of marijuana in the trunk of a car after stopping the vehicle because its taillights weren't working properly.

Oleg Spektorov, 29, of 499 Summer St., Boston, Massachusetts, was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and unlawful possession of a "schedule X" drug.

Auburn Police said they pulled over a motor vehicle on Washington Street around 8:45 p.m. on Saturday because it had inoperative taillights. The officer conducting the motor vehicle stop said he detected an "overwhelming odor" of marijuana coming from the vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, more than 41 pounds of marijuana was found. Also seized was a small amount of hashish oil, as well as items used to manufacture hashish oil.

Spektorov told police that he was a medical marijuana caregiver, but was unable to explain to police why there was more than 41 pounds of the drug in the car.

He was taken to Androscoggin County Jail and later released on $25,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 30.
