Man Charged in Fatal Winter Hit-and-Run Due in Court

Karen McHugh was fatally injured at 10 p.m. on Jan. 30 when she was struck by a car on Arcade Avenue

An Attleboro, Vermont, man arrested in connection with the January hit-and-run death of the assistant town clerk of Seekonk will be in court Monday.

Karen McHugh was fatally injured at 10 p.m. on Jan. 30 when she was struck by a car on Arcade Avenue. She died the same night at Rhode Island Hospital.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn and Seekonk Police Chief Craig Mace said Sunday afternoon that 24-year-old Jacob LaCourse is temporarily held on $500,000 bail until his arraignment Monday.

The officials said LaCourse is charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He was arrested Friday, and had been free on bail in an unrelated case. It's not immediately known if he has an attorney to comment on the new charges.
