Man Dies After Being Pulled From Burning House in Westwood

Officials are trying to figure out what sparked a house fire in Westwood, Massachusetts on Wednesday evening that claimed the life of one man.

The fire broke out shortly before 6 p.m. at a home on Tamarack Road.

When crews arrived, the left side of the house was fully engulfed in flames.

Westwood Fire Chief John Deckers said firefighters located a man inside the home as soon as they arrived.

The man, who has since been identified as 47-year-old Michael Lennon, a resident of the home, was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Firefighters were able to rescue a dog.

The exact cause of the fire is being jointly investigated by the Westwood Fire and Police Departments and state police assigned to both the Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Norfolk County district attorney's office.

Authorities said this is the third fatal fire of the year in Massachusetts.

The Norfolk County DA said Lennon's death does not appear to be suspicious so far.
