Man Dies From Injuries After Hitting Mass. State Police Cruiser

A Massachusetts man has died from his injuries after he hit a state police cruiser from behind on Interstate 93 southbound in Randolph Monday night, according to authorities.

The driver, a 45-year-old Brockton man, hit the cruiser with a 2004 Nissan Frontier pickup truck in a work area prior to the exit for Route 28 around 11:35 p.m., state police said. His name has not been released.

The cruiser, which was in the left travel lane, was fully-marked and had its lights active at the time of the crash. Police said signs were in place indicating that the lane ahead was closed for road work.

The driver, who was the only person in the truck, was taken by medical helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he died Tuesday.

Police said the trooper was taken by Randolph EMS to Boston Medical Center, where he was treated for a concussion and released.

The rear end of the cruiser and the front end of the truck sustained heavy damage in the crash. Both vehicles were towed away for inspection.

The crash remains under investigation by state police.
