Man Dies When Jeep Strikes Tree

Chief Stephen Peasley says 47-year-old Kevin Manion was driving south on Ford Quint Road at about 7:30 a.m. Monday when he drifted into the opposite lane

Police say a Sanford, Maine, man has died after the Jeep he was driving struck a tree in North Berwick.

Chief Stephen Peasley says 47-year-old Kevin Manion was driving south on Ford Quint Road at about 7:30 a.m. Monday when he drifted into the opposite lane, then over corrected and slid into the tree.

Manion, the vehicle's only occupant, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The chief says investigators do not believe speed was a factor, but are awaiting results of drug and alcohol tests. He says Manion's cellphone was in his pocket.

The crash remains under investigation.
