The man arrested in Massachusetts after leading officials on a manhunt following a fatal stabbing in New Hampshire has been charged with murder.
Joseph King Hanright, 29, was captured in Methuen, Massachusetts, on Sunday after he was wanted for questioning in relation to the homicide of 64-year-old Marshall John Villeneuve, who was found stabbed to death in Concord, New Hampshire.
At an arraignment Monday in Massachusetts, Hanright waived extradition to New Hampshire. The following day, Granite State prosecutors announced new charges against Hanright.
Attorney General Gordon MacDonald said Hanright was facing two alternative counts of second-degree murder — one for knowingly causing Villeneuve's death and the other for recklessly causing his death.
Hanright is expected to be arraigned Wednesday in Merrimack County Superior Court.
Police began to search for Hanright on Saturday following the stabbing death of Marshall John Villeneuve, who was found in his Concord home on Friday. Officials said the defendant was seen fleeing from a stolen car Saturday in Methuen then later hiding in some bushes with a woman.
That woman was taken into custody, but Hanright fled the scene before being captured Sunday.
