Man Flees Traffic Stop Before Crashing in Providence, RI

Police say a man fled a traffic stop before crashing into another vehicle and trying to escape on foot in the early morning hours in Providence.

An officer on patrol at about 2 a.m. Monday noticed suspicious activity in a convenience store parking lot, which he thought could be a drug deal.

Police followed one vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver refused to stop and eventually collided with another car.

He was chased on foot before he was apprehended.

No name was released but police say he is a 49-year-old man with active warrants out of Lincoln and Smithfield.

The suspect and two others involved in the crash were taken to the hospital.

The suspect faces charges including reckless driving and eluding police.
