Maine fire marshals say a man has been found dead in his burned-out car parked at a rest area along Route 201 in Fairfield.
A spokesman for the state Department of Public Safety says investigators believe the man doused himself with gasoline and set himself on fire Saturday morning. Spokesman Stephen McCausland says the man had called a friend saying he was going to kill himself.
McCausland says passing motorists reported the fire around 10 a.m.
The man was identified as 61-year-old William Wakefield of Skowhegan.
