Cleaning Co. Owner Found Dead in Freezer at Braintree Fish Processing Plant

The man, in his 40s, was discovered overnight in an industrial freezer and died at the hospital

A man has died after being found overnight in an industrial freezer at a fish processing plant in Braintree, Massachusetts, the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office said Thursday.

The man, in his 40s, was discovered in the spiral freezer at the Channel Fish Processing facility and transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, the district attorney said.

There was no indication the victim was locked in the freezer or that foul play was involved, the district attorney said.

An autopsy was underway to determine cause of death.

A representative from Channel Fish Processing Company did not identify the victim but said he was the owner of Big Star Cleaning of Everett.

"We are profoundly saddened by this tragedy, and extend our deepest sympathy to the man's family, friends and co-workers at Big Star Cleaning," Chief Executive Officer of Channel Fish Processing Company Roy Zaffiro said in a statement. "Channel Fish, which has been in business since 1985, is devoted to safety at all times, and is conducting its own investigation."

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration, state and local police are investigating.
