Man Gets Prison Time for Sex Assaults of Young Girl

Frederick Bassett was sentenced on Wednesday after jurors convicted him of aggravated felonious sexual assault last fall

A Franklin, Massachusetts man convicted of sexually assaulting a girl for years beginning when she was 11 years old has been sentenced to serve between 20 to 40 years in prison.

Frederick Bassett was sentenced on Wednesday after jurors convicted him of aggravated felonious sexual assault last fall.

Prosecutors say Bassett sexually assaulted the girl at least 50 times from 2011 to 2014.

Assistant Merrimack County Attorney David Rotman says Bassett committed one of the "most heinous crimes that could be perpetrated in our society."

Merrimack County Superior Court Judge Richard McNamara urged Bassett to rehabilitate himself in prison.

Bassett maintains his innocence and tried to have his convictions thrown out due to inadequate proof. He said the girl's testimony wasn't verified.

Bassett didn't address the court on Wednesday.
