A Middletown, Rhode Island, man has been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with the motor vehicle death of a Naval Station Newport detective last year.
The Newport Daily News reports that the U.S. attorney's office says Alan Bradley was indicted Tuesday on a charge of operating a motor vehicle in reckless disregard of the safety of others, resulting in the death of a person.
Authorities said the 53-year-old Bradley was driving a government pickup Sept. 26, 2013, when he hit and killed Frank Lema, who was walking.
The charge carries a term of up to 10 years in federal prison upon conviction.
A message at a listed phone number for Bradley was not immediately returned Wednesday morning and it's not known if he's represented by a lawyer.
