    Man Injured in Officer-Involved Shooting

    Vermont State Police say a Brattleboro man has been shot and injured by a trooper during a confrontation in Fayston.

    Police say 48-year-old Robert Smallidge was shot in the leg Friday evening.

    The trooper, identified as 28-year-old Christopher Brown, was responding to a report from the boyfriend of Smallidge's ex-wife that Smallidge was drunk and refusing to leave a property in Fayston. Police say the trooper tried to speak with Smallidge outside the residence and Smallidge refused repeated verbal commands. Authorities say the trooper then shot Smallidge.

    The shooting in under investigation.

    Smallidge was taken to the hospital and cited to appear in court on a trespassing charge on Tuesday.

    Brown was not injured. He was placed on administrative leave with pay according to police policy. 

    Vermont State Police say he was hired in January of 2012.
