Man Pleads Guilty to Assaulting Postal Service Worker

Phocian Fitts pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer earlier this month in Boston federal court

A 20-year-old Boston man has admitted to attacking a U.S. Postal Service worker after he kicked at his mother's dog while carrying mail in the city's Brighton section.

The Boston Globe reports Phocian Fitts pleaded guilty to assaulting a federal officer earlier this month in Boston federal court.

The incident began on Dec. 16, 2014 when 43-year-old mailman Derek Neff was walking on Fidelis Way at the same time Fitts' mother, Sitha Saing, was walking her two small dogs.

Postal Inspector Stephen Dowd says when Neff and Saing crossed paths, Neff "kicked at" one dog to push it away. Neff says prior to that he asked Saing to control her pets.

After witnessing the exchange, Fitts confronted Neff and then followed him to a mailroom where he assaulted him.
