A man originally from Amesbury, Massachusetts, says his gold high school class ring has been found in the same spot he lost it almost 50 years ago.
The Daily News of Newburyport reports that Dan Toomey's ring was found March 19.
Toomey, who now lives in Anchorage, Alaska, says he was at the beach with his friends in 1966 when he lost the 10-carat Amesbury High School Class of 1967 ring.
Toomey says he never gave the ring much thought after losing it, but was surprised to hear a tourist visiting from Vermont found the ring buried under eight inches of mud.
The tourist took the ring to the school, where employees did some detective work and found it belonged to Toomey.
The ring has been sent to the manufacturer for rehabilitation.
