A New Hampshire man was sentenced to serve five to 10 years in prison after admitting to his role in a fatal 2014 drunken driving accident.
Ryan Mears apologized to the family of Tiffany Nieves on Monday after entering guilty pleas, saying a night of bad decisions still haunts him.
The 27-year-old Mears was charged with negligent homicide, second-degree assault and possession of a controlled drug.
Prosecutors say an intoxicated Mears was driving 90 mph in a 40 mph zone when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed head-on into a tree off Parade Road in Laconia.
Nieves, a passenger in the car, was found unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors say Mears admitted to officers he had been drinking and using cocaine.
