Man Sentenced for Shooting Another Man With Rifle

David Byron, of Falmouth, pleaded guilty in Barnstable Superior Court to aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon

A 22-year-old Massachusetts man who shot another man with a rifle has been sentenced to seven to eight years in prison.

The Cape Cod Times reports that David Byron, of Falmouth, pleaded guilty in Barnstable Superior Court to aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, among other related charges.

Police responded to Mashpee's New Seabury neighborhood around 3 a.m. on March 29, 2014 where they discovered a man had been shot in the abdomen.

Court documents show Byron drove by the house of a woman several times. A man at the residence went to Byron's car to talk to him. The woman said she heard Byron say, "I don't want to have to do this" before multiple gunshots rang out.
