Man Seriously Injured, Was Trapped in Car After Crash

A man was seriously injured in a crash early Wednesday morning that trapped him inside the car, according to police in Massachusetts.

Topsfield police say the crash happened just after 1 a.m. on Route 97 near the Wenham and Danvers town lines.

First responders arriving at the scene found a 26-year-old Topsfield man trapped inside a 1999 Honda Civic, which was on its roof and leaking fuel in the eastbound lane.

Crews had to close the road for about 45 minutes as firefighters used rescue airbags and Jaws of Life to get him out of the wrecked car.

He was taken to Beverly Hospital with "potentially life-threatening injuries." The current condition of the victim, whose name was not released, is unknown.

The crash remains under investigation.
